On January 17, 2026, from 13:30 to 16:30, Taipei City Department will hold a grand 119 Disaster Prevention Event at the National Taiwan Science Education Center and the surrounding park connecting roads. The event brings together partners from industry, government, education, and non-profit organizations to create a "Disaster Prevention Super Training Ground," upgrading the public's home fire safety knowledge and turning disaster prevention into their own superpower! The event has been fully upgraded, featuring an unprecedented arrangement of two aerial ladder trucks for the public to experience. Furthermore, various interactive booths and experience zones have been meticulously designed, including the "Fire Safety Grand Exam," "Firefighter Professional Experience," and "Fire Prevention Lantern DIY," as well as the race-against-time "Fire Prevention Escape Room," Through these hands-on activities, participants can learn essential fire safety concepts, embody the importance of "practicing in peace time to remain calm during disasters," and create personalized souvenirs that help embed disaster preparedness knowledge in everyday life. Additionally, a dedicated Tech-Disaster Prevention Zone has been set up to introduce the practical application of smart technology in disaster prevention and rescue work through displays and demonstrations. This covers fire suppression, decision support, incident reporting, and emergency medical services, strengthening overall response efficiency. Through interactive promotion, the diverse achievements of technology applied to urban safety are presented, showing the public Taipei City's continuous efforts to deepen its substantial energy in tech-driven disaster prevention. With the arrival of Firefighters' Day on January 19, while expressing gratitude for the hard work of firefighters, the fire department also calls on the public to remember the "Smoke Detector Check Day." By following the simple mnemonic "Press, Listen, and Confirm," citizens are reminded to regularly clean and test their home smoke detectors to ensure proper functionality and battery status, providing an extra layer of protection for home safety and effectively improving the success rate of early escape during a fire. The event has also specially invited guests from the "2026 ArcDR³ Taipei Forum—International Symposium on Urban Disaster Prevention Functions for Large Indoor Event Spaces" to participate, showcasing Taipei City's innovative achievements and urban resilience in fire prevention and disaster mitigation to the international community. Finally, the fire department warmly reminds everyone that as the Lunar New Year approaches, please pay attention to stove fire safety while cooking reunion dinners, and turn off power and gas when leaving home for long periods. Starting from small daily actions, we can reduce fire risks, protect life and property, and enjoy a safe and peaceful New Year!
