The Hydraulic Engineering Office (HEO), Public Works Department (PWD), Taipei City Government (TPCG), has recently completed the overall environmental reengineering of the Jiuguizikeng River, bringing citizens are brand-new and eco-friendly recreational area. The project started on December 11, 2023 and was completed on August 13, 2024. It aims to eradicate the long-term illegal occupation and waste disposal in the area. Based on the concept of resource recycling and reduction earthwork transportation, a blue-green region with flood mitigation function is thus built.
In ground access design, solidified soil and sawdust have been used to pave the bikeway and trail. The solidified soil trail linking Ligung Street to Dadu Road is mixed with the local soil. It is ideal for cycling and strolling. The sawdust trail is made with the sawdust from cutting pioneer trees. Apart from making walking more comfortable, this has also made energy conservation and carbon reduction a reality.
To link up both banks of the Jiuguizikeng River, a boat-shaped platform has been designed in the style of a sampan - the vehicle for water transportation in earlier Guandu. It is like a span bridge linking both banks. Additionally, a recreational platform and a paddy watching platform have been built on the banks for citizens to watch the paddy sea and joy the pastoral scene formed by the last piece of paddy field in the city.
