Restroom for Parents with Toddlers or Disabled Passengers in MRT Taipei Main Station, Taipei City Hall Station Now Equipped with Adult Changing Table
According to the resolution of the Taipei City Accessible Environment Promotion Working Group, since some disabled passengers are unable to go to the toilet by themselves and require their companions to help them clean up or change clothes, Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (TRTC) has installed wall-mounted adult changing tables at restrooms for parents with toddlers or disabled passengers inside MRT Taipei Main Station and MRT Taipei City Hall Station, so as to offer wheelchair users and their companions more convenience.
The wall-mounted adult changing table is designed according to the specifications of each station. For example, the restroom for parents with toddlers or disabled passengers in MRT Taipei Main Station adopts a vertical configuration, measuring approximately 130cm (length) by 75cm (width) when unfolded.
The restroom for parents with toddlers or disabled passengers in MRT Taipei City Hall Station adopts a horizontal design, measuring roughly 150cm (length) by 70cm (width). Both adult changing tables have reserved spaces for the wheelchair user and his/her companion in order to comply with the accessible facility design-related regulations of buildings.
The restrooms for parents with toddlers or disabled passengers in MRT stations are already equipped with amenities such as baby changing tables, potty seats, and children’s toilets. When disabled passengers or parents holding a child with both arms want to use the toilet but find it difficult to close the door, they may simply press the close door button lightly once inside. The button is installed in a conspicuous location next to the door and it is distinguished using a different color. First-time users may refer to the Chinese/English instruction by the button.
