TPEDOIT Sets up Booth at ITB Asia

TPEDOIT staff at ITB Asia in SingaporeWith the easing of travel restrictions and the reopening of global commercial activities, the Department of Information and Tourism (TPEDOIT) attended the ITB Asia in Singapore between October 19 and 21. The agency hopes to attract visitors and businesses to Taipei for their MICE (Meeting, Incentives, Convention, Exhibition) events.

The delegation from Taipei City comprises representatives from major hotels such as Humble House Hotel, Taipei Marriott Hotel, and Sheraton Grand Taipei Hotel. The businesses will offer exhibition and incentive packages to international buyers, as well as providing one-stop services and information on local tourism resources.

In response to the shift in demand of the global market in recent years and the growing need for customization and diversity, the city government plans to focus promotion efforts on venues which fits into the integration of online and offline. For example, the Taipei Music Center and Taipei Performing Arts Center are both relatively new venues boasting unique appearances and large audience capacity.

In addition, Taipei is also the first city in Northeast Asia to join the rank of cities adopting the Safe Travels Stamp protocol under the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), becoming a member of the global safe travel chain in 2021. Taipei is also listed among the top 10 cities to visit in 2022 by Lonely Planet.

Senior Specialist Shen Yung-hua of TPEDOIT pointed out that city hall seeks to make Taipei the top choice for MICE destinations in Asia through updating infrastructure and venues, providing subsidies for qualified shows, and offering administrative assistances to event organizers.

The delegation members also took the opportunity to meet with COO Noor Ahmad Hamid of the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau, Executive Director Edward Koh of Singapore Exhibition and Convention Bureau, and Regional Director of ICCA Asia Pacific Waikin Wong.
