Stay Safe During an Earthquake, Video 119 App Ensures Your Safety. The Wanhua District Community Disaster Prevention Event

To commemorate the impact caused by the 921 Earthquake and enhance civil response capability of disaster preparedness, the First District HQ of the Taipei City Fire Department collaborates with the Xinqi Li Office and the Wanhua Children's Service Center to host the "Xinqi Li Mid-Autumn Celebration" and "Stay Safe During an Earthquake - Video 119 App Ensures Your Safety" disaster preparedness carnival at the Qingshui Temple on September 23, 2023 (Saturday) from 18:00 to 21:00.

This event is going to get community residents together and celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival together. In addition, this event includes exciting stage performances, quizzes with prizes, and disaster preparedness booths. There will be seven interactive booths, including “Electrical Fire Safety”, “CPR+AED Experience”, ”Cigarette Butt Fire Prevention Tips”, “Kitchen Fire Safety Tips”, “Response to the Earthquake”, “Typhoon Preparedness”, and “Drowning Prevention”. Additionally, there will be an earthquake experience vehicle that allows you to experience the shaking of an earthquake firsthand. These allow the public to learn about disaster prevention through games, and they can win the presents after completing the stamp collection.

The Fire Department states that Taiwan is located at the convergent boundary between the Eurasian Plate and the Philippine Sea Plate. Earthquakes happen frequently and they cannot be predicted accurately. The Fire Department encourages the public to prepare a Go Bag. People should customize their Go Bag for personal needs, which should include food, bottled water, first aid tools, articles for daily use, and personal special needs, such as powdered milk or diapers. Moreover, we should secure furnitures in our house to prevent them from tipping over during the earthquake. When the earthquake occurs, please follow 3 steps below to protect us from injuries:

  1. Drop: Drop on the floor.
  2. Cover: Take cover under a sturdy desk or table.
  3. Hold on: Hold on until the shaking stops.

Taipei City Fire Department invites the public to join the event and celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival together. We hope everyone can learn more about disaster prevention to properly prepare for different types of disasters, which facilitates mutual and self-assistance during disasters and improves local preparedness and response capacity.
