Mayor Kicks-off WBSC U23 Baseball World Cup at Tianmu Stadium

Teams participating in this year's WBSC U23 Baseball World Cup at the opening ceremonyThe biannual WBSC U23 Baseball World Cup Tournament kicked-off at Tianmu Baseball Stadium, Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium, and Douliu Stadium in the evening of October 13. Mayor Ko attended the opening ceremony at Tianmu Baseball Ceremony with other guests.

 

During his address, the mayor welcomed the players and spectators to the U23 baseball opening match at Tianmu Baseball Stadium. He noted that the event carries a special meaning for Taipei City, since it is the first major international sports competition to take place in Taiwan after the relaxing of border restrictions.

 

Ko pointed out that people are often excited about attending sports matches. With a degree of normalcy returning to our daily life, many residents feel relieved by the fact that they can buy tickets to watch the game at sport stadiums once again. 

 

The 2022 WBSC U23 Baseball World Cup Tournament will take place between October 13 and 23 at three venues across the island: Tianmu Baseball Stadium, Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium, and Douliu Stadium. On behalf of Taipei citizens, he would like to thank all guests, coaches, athletes, and baseball team staff for traveling to Taiwan for the event. 

 

The mayor remarked that there are 12 teams participating in the tournament. In addition to the local team, teams from Colombia, Germany, Japan, South Africa, Venezuela, Australia, Cuba, South Korea, Mexico, the Netherlands, and Puerto Rico will be vying for the top honor in this year’s competition.
